Our Mission

Digital Fairness

In today’s world, digital technology influences nearly every part of our lives, from how we communicate, work, and learn to how we access news, healthcare, and public services. But as the digital world expands, it has become increasingly shaped by business models that prioritize engagement, data collection, and profits over fairness, transparency, and respect for users.

Digital fairness is about ensuring that people are treated ethically online. It means users should clearly understand how their data is used, what algorithms influence their feeds, and how platforms affect their behavior and well-being. It means digital services should be designed to benefit people, not to exploit their attention, emotions, or vulnerabilities.

Without digital fairness, users are subjected to manipulative designs, hidden tracking, and systems that reinforce inequality and misinformation. These issues especially affect those who lack digital literacy or the tools to protect themselves, including youth, the elderly, and marginalized communities.

At People for Digital Fairness, we believe that a fair digital environment is not a luxury; it's a necessity for a healthy, democratic, and inclusive society. Everyone should have the right to use technology in ways that empower rather than exploit them.

More Legislation

As digital technologies have developed, the power of a few large tech companies has grown far beyond what current laws were built to handle. These companies shape how billions of people experience the internet every day, yet they often operate with little accountability.

From invasive data harvesting to algorithmic manipulation and addictive design, Big Tech has been allowed to create platforms that prioritize profit while undermining user autonomy, privacy, and mental health. Existing regulations, where they exist at all, are often outdated, poorly enforced, or not strong enough to address these modern challenges.

That’s why People for Digital Fairness advocates for comprehensive and up-to-date legislation that holds tech companies accountable. We push for laws that ban exploitative design patterns (such as dark patterns), ensure transparency in algorithmic systems, and give users real control over their digital presence.

Strong legislation is essential to shift power back to users, protect democratic values, and ensure that the digital world reflects ethical standards. Without it, fairness will always be optional, and users will continue to bear the consequences of unchecked corporate power.

Protecting the Youth

Young people today are growing up in a digital world that was not designed with their well-being in mind. Platforms like social media, video-sharing apps, and games often use persuasive technology to capture and hold users’ attention regardless of age. These techniques can include infinite scrolling, reward systems, constant notifications, and curated content that targets emotional responses.

Young minds are especially vulnerable to these features. Their brains are still developing, and they may struggle to recognize manipulation or set healthy boundaries with screen time. As a result, many children and teens are experiencing the consequences: increased levels of anxiety and depression, disrupted sleep, low self-esteem, and social isolation.

At People for Digital Fairness, one of our central missions is to protect youth from these harmful effects. We believe that digital spaces should be safe, respectful, and age-appropriate. That means advocating for laws and design standards that prevent addictive features, limit harmful content, and empower young users with knowledge and tools to navigate the digital world responsibly.

If we fail to act now, the long-term mental, emotional, and physical health of an entire generation could be at risk. Our work is dedicated to ensuring that technology supports youth development, not undermines it.
